Short answer: A country calling code is the 1–3 digit prefix you dial after + to reach another country, such as +1 for the US and Canada, +44 for the UK or +91 for India. The table below lists the code, national number length and full E.164 length for all 181 countries where ZuteSIP has numbers.

How to read an international phone number

International numbers follow the ITU-T E.164 standard: a plus sign, the country calling code, then the national significant number — with no spaces, dashes or leading trunk zero. The whole number is at most 15 digits long.

When you save contacts, sign up for apps or configure a PBX, always use the E.164 form. It works from any country and is what WhatsApp, Telegram, Google and SIP systems expect.

Common mistakes

• Keeping the national trunk prefix: +44 07700… is wrong, +44 7700… is right.
• Adding 00 and + together: use one or the other, never both.
• Assuming every country uses 10 digits: lengths vary from 7 to 12 digits after the code, and some countries mix lengths.
• Confusing shared codes: the US, Canada and many Caribbean countries all use +1 (the North American Numbering Plan).
