Like having teeth in your mouth? Developer Pragmatic Play apparently doesn't because the team's gone and made yet another sweet-filled slot going by the name of Sugar Supreme Powernudge. The studio apparently also likes a bit of nudging, too, since Sugar Supreme Powernudge follows in the footsteps of Rise of Giza Powernudge, Goblin Heist Powernudge, and Sweet Powernudge. You might think Sugar Supreme Powernudge shares genetics with the last one on that list, but in many ways, it's actually close to Pragmatic Play's mega hit Sugar Rush. Confused yet? Good, let's nibble our way in.
If there is one thing Pragmatic Play knows, it is candy slots. This is a studio that, when it develops a sweet tooth for something, whether candied themes or scatter pay mechanics, or both, or whatever, latches on with both hands and squeezes for all it's worth. This is good news for fans of saccharine slots, then, because Sugar Supreme Powernudge does a nice job of laying on a cotton candy, lollied environment to get busy in. A 6x6-sized gaming grid covers a lot of the space, though plenty of tasty treats can be glimpsed around the edges. Still, we've seen this thing a lot, seriously, a lot, already, so Sugar Supreme Powernudge isn't a game which dazzled at first glance.
Sugar Supreme Powernudge comes with a palatable set of stats, though, leading off with a theoretical RTP of 96.09% and a math model that will suit players who prefer their slots highly volatile. That RTP applies when wagering 20 p/c to $/€240 per spin, but the return dips a grain to 96.08% when buying the bonus round. Functioning with a cluster pays win system, players are rewarded financially when at least 5 identical symbols hit, connected in horizontal and/or vertical directions.
Pay symbols have 4 hard candies as the lows, coloured yellow, blue, purple, and red, then 4 cupcake/cake items as the high pays. When 5 matching symbols are in view on the reels, payouts vary from 0.1 to 1 times the bet, while landing the maximum clusters of 15+ symbols, players collect a win worth 10 to 100 times the bet. Wilds do not land in Sugar Supreme Powernudge to assist in linking pay symbols, yet several features are on hand to help thrill things up.
Sugar Supreme Powernudge: Slot Features
Those features are the Powernudge system, which borrows certain elements from another Pragmatic Play game, free spins, and a bonus buy.
Powernudge Feature
In the base game, the Powernudge may trigger randomly when a winning cluster appears. When triggered, the win is paid, and the reels that contain at least one winning symbol nudge down one position to reveal another symbol at the top, and the game pays again for any winning combos on the screen. That's not all, though. Winning positions get an x1 multiplier. The multiplier on each position increases by +1 every time a winning symbol appears on it during a nudge sequence. Winning clusters on positions with multipliers have their win multiplied by the total value of all multiplier values from all applicable positions they are on. When no more wins occur in the base game, the multipliers are cleared.
Free Spins
Hitting 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatter symbols in the base game triggers the bonus round where 10, 12, 15, or 20 free spins are respectively awarded. In free spins, the Powernudge triggers on every winning combination and marked positions, and their multipliers remain in place until the round ends. Multipliers can continue to be increased by subsequent wins. Hitting 3+ scatters means players get an extra +10 free spins.
Buy Free Spins
The free spins round may be bought from the base game for the cost of 100x the bet. If you buy the round, then it gets triggered by 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters.
Sugar Supreme Powernudge: Slot Verdict
Sugar Supreme Powernudge feels like it was made by a pastry chef who was kicking around at home on their day off, casually whipping up something in the kitchen with limited ingredients. This assessment is not meant to be negative in any way. Rather, some people just have a stack of experience or expertise they can draw on to rustle up something new, and Pragmatic Play, being the prolific team they are, certainly has a ton of games in their back catalogue they can mix and match styles and features from.
Sugar Supreme Powernudge is a case in point, bringing together the Powernudge feature with the marked multiplier spots style of action from Sugar Rush. Critics might call the amalgamation low effort, especially when using such a commonplace theme. But the merge of features actually works like a charm, and anyone who fell for Sugar Rush's magic, and there is likely to be a substantial number out there, might do well to give Sugar Supreme Powernudge a try as well.
There existed a great divide between Sugar Supreme Powernudge's base game and its free spins round, though you could say that about a lot of slots, maybe most of them. The base game had no trouble dropping dead/meh spins about the place or teasing when wins hit but not triggering any Powernudging. Of course, the opposite may occur, but it wasn't till free spins triggered that Sugar Supreme Powernudge really came to life. Till then, eh, it was another sweet game. However, like Sugar Rush, those persistent multipliers in free spins, now coupled by nudging symbols, have the ability to create quite a, uh, rush.
If you're wondering how much of a rush, Sugar Supreme Powernudge cuts things off at 5,000x the bet, which is fine, but it wouldn't have been awful if the figure had been higher. Nevermind, the max win is equal to or greater than potential found in the Powernudge slots preceding it, and for players warm to the way Sugar Rush functions, this one could very well be the best PN game so far.
