At the time of writing, Relax Gaming had been busy powering through their back catalogue of games for Dream Drop makeovers, which might have inspired competitor studio Pragmatic Play to get in on the act. Pragmatic has turned to one of their popular classics, the iconic Wolf Gold, for a big win redo, by attaching several progressive jackpots. Unusually, as well as being able to strike individual wins, 50% of the jackpot is shared amongst contributing members of the community. Come join us and see how you can take part in the communal action, and do a bit of howling at the moon while you are at it, should the mood strike.
One of the changes is the background image, though you can't see much of it as the screen is dominated by the game grid and the Power Jackpot information panel on the left, where the current values can be inspected. The music's different, too. Whereas before, it had a sort of a Native American sound, Wolf Gold Power Jackpot music leans more toward the Wild West instead. You still get a solid blast of North American nature like before, though, which made up much of the original slot's charm.
Getting your hands on a jackpot, or attempting to at least, is possible on any device, where bets of 25 p/c to $/€125 per spin can be selected. Players gambling at any bet size have a chance to win a jackpot; however, the larger the stake, the greater the chance of doing so. A medium volatile slot, Wolf Gold Power Jackpot's game grid is made up of 5-reels, 3-rows, and 25 fixed paylines.
The rules are simple, landing three to five identical symbols along a payline from the leftmost side triggers a payout. There are 8 pay symbols; four of them are J-A royals, worth 2x the bet for five of a kind, while the remaining four are horses, cougars, eagles, and bison worth 8-20x the bet for a line of five. Wolves are displayed on the wild symbol, which can land on any reel to substitute for all regular pay symbols. If wolf wilds create wins of their own, they have the same value as the highest paying bison symbol.
Wolf Gold Power Jackpot: Slot Features
The Power Jackpot adds a new dimension to the Wolf Gold experience, and while Pragmatic Play was at it, they've revamped the free spins bonus round as well. Completing the trio of features in Wolf Gold Power Jackpot is a Money Respin round.
Free Spins
Hitting 3 scatter symbols on reels 1, 3, and 5 awards 1x the bet plus 5 free spins. In this Wolf Gold game, the middle reels do not merge to create Giant symbols. Instead, mystery symbols become present on all reels in free spins. When mystery symbols land, they transform into the same symbol type which can be anything except scatters. Free spins are retriggered whenever 3 scatters land in view.
Money Respins
The moon is the Money Symbol, which is present on all five reels, and displays a cash value. When at least 6 Money Symbols are in view, they launch the Money Respin feature. Normal symbols disappear from the reels while the triggering symbols remain stuck in place - 3 respins are awarded, which reset whenever new Money Symbols land and are locked to the reels. When respins end, the value of the Money Symbols is awarded. If all positions are filled, players also win the 1,000x Full Screen Bonus.
Jackpot Bonus Feature
Wolf Gold Power Jackpot has four jackpots that can be won from the base game - the Mini, Minor, Major, and Power. When 5 golden reels hit in the base game, the Jackpot Bonus game is activated. A Wheel of Fortune with two parts spins. The inner part contains blank segments and jackpot segments. The outer part has segments displaying bet multipliers. If the wheel stops on a jackpot on the inner part, it is awarded. If it lands on a blank segment on the inner part of the wheel, then the bet multiplier on the outer part of the wheel is awarded. It's worth repeating that when the jackpot lands, 50% is shared with the contributing player community.
Wolf Gold Power Jackpot: Slot Verdict
The original Wolf Gold slot has proved its popularity through the years, so it's hard to see a jackpot version not being successful as well. In other words, it's a clever move to use brand awareness to draw attention to their first Power Jackpot game. Wolf Gold Power Jackpot is not a straight upgrade either, as Pragmatic Play has made a few alterations to the audio-visuals as well as some of the features. The graphics and soundtrack are two things fans should be able to take in their stride since they evoke the spirit of the Prairie as before, albeit with less of an American Indian influence.
The reaction to the new free spins could be more divisive, though, since the merged reel effect has been stripped away and replaced with mystery symbols. A little academic, perhaps, since the desire to have a crack at winning the Power Jackpot will surely override the preference for Giant symbols over mystery symbols. Wolf Gold Power Jackpot is upfront about non-jackpot winning capabilities, and it clearly displays a value of 2,500x the bet as a win cap, which is the same as what was available in the previous game. No issues there. Players who like continuity will be pleased to know the Money Respin feature is more or less the same as it was before, too, including the 1,000x prize for filling the grid.
And so, there are a few things about Wolf Gold Power Jackpot which remind one of the original, classic game. That is until your eyes wander to the side of the screen where the prize values sit, ticking over. How the community will react to a shared jackpot concept will be interesting, not to mention seeing exactly how it will be administered. Equally curious is how much contributing players will actually collect from the 50% shared part of the jackpot.
