If you've been following Play'n GO, you may be aware that it has launched a series of '100' slots, which are remakes of previous games such as Moon Princess / Moon Princess 100. Not to be outdone, competitor studio Pragmatic Play has followed suit, but instead of the number 100, it's gone one digit extra and come up with Starlight Princess 1000. Like Play'n GO's approach, Starlight Princess 1000 is a remake of the original Starlight Princess slot but with new bits added to it.
For a lot of the game, we could basically copy and paste most of the text from the previous review. Players find themselves in a similar clouded spot in the base game, listening to the same bopping tunes. The princess has changed, though, admittedly. In Starlight Princess 1000, she's wearing a more elaborate getup, and the staff she's holding in her hand is more impressive. Other than that, it's business as usual, really.

Players get the same default RTP when betting normally or using the ante bet at 96.5%, though this time, a bonus buy is available, with a return value of 96.49%. With high volatility, users are able to select a base bet of 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin, and when the ante bet is active, stakes increase by 25% whilst doubling the chance of triggering free spins.
The action is played on a 6-reel, 5-row gaming panel, which uses a scatter pays system to award wins. How it works is that when 8 or more identical symbols land on the board, a win is paid, and the tumble mechanic is triggered. Winning symbols are removed from the reels and replaced by those falling down from above. For the low pays, we've got 5 gemstones of varying descriptions, then a star, a moon, a heart, and sun-inscribed objects as the high pays. When landing an 8-9 scatter win, the rewards are 0.25 to 10 times the bet, bumping up to 2 to 50 times the bet for a 12+ sized scatter win.
>Some of Starlight Princess 1000's most critical symbols are its multipliers. These are present on all reels and may land on spins or tumbles in the base game and in free spins. When multiplier symbols hit, they get a random value of x2-x6, x8, x10, x12, x15, x20, x25, x50, x100, x250, x500, or x1,000. When a tumbling sequence ends, the values of all multipliers on the screen are added up and applied to the total win.
Players win 15 free spins when 4, 5, or 6 scatter symbols hit, as well as 3x, 5x, or 100x the bet, respectively. In free spins, when a multiplier symbol hits and the spin results in a win, the multiplier value is added to the global multiplier. Whenever a new multiplier symbol lands and results in a win, the global multiplier value is used to multiply the win. Landing 3 or more scatter symbols during the round results in +5 free spins being added.
When the ante bet feature is switched off, players are able to buy the free spins round for the cost of 100 times the bet.
>Well, there you have it, not hugely different to the original Starlight Princess in many ways, diabolically different in a few others. It's a bit like someone adding a new nitrous oxide kit to their car. From the outside, it might not look massively different, but the upgrade gets more oxygen to the engine, giving it a bit more oomph. In Starlight Princess 1000, that extra oomph is provided by the new top x1,000 multiplier symbol, compared to the previous game's top value of x500. One wonders how often this new value will be called into the fray, but just knowing it's there might be enough to tempt players over from the original, or for that matter, tempt fans of the wide selection of Starlight Princess/Gates of Olympus style slots in for a look.
Starlight Princess 1000's other big draw is its vastly expanded max win. Where the last game was cut off at 5,000x the bet by its win cap, Starlight Princess 1000 triples that amount to a cool 15,000x the bet. A positive step in many ways, too, since an x1,000 multiplier is huge, and pairing it with a weedy max win would've been a tad whack.
In the end, the changes made to Starlight Princess 1000 are largely positive ones for players in the mood for a scatter wins slot with more grunt than they usually have from Pragmatic Play. After seeing Play'n GO do a number of '100' slot makeovers and given Pragmatic Play's propensity to send slots flying off the production line like a popped piñata, it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see one or two, or more, slots get the '1000' treatment.
