Aladdin and the Sorcerer (Pragmatic Play): Overview
Aladdin and the Sorcerer sees Pragmatic Play branching off on new different tangent. Their last few releases such as Super Joker and Fire Strike had a more traditional fruit/physical slot vibe, so a change is nice. Aladdin and the Sorcerer takes players to the hot lands of the Middle East where the hero and villain of the game do battle.
No doubt you are aware of the Aladdin story, an Arabic folk tale that was made famous in the West by Disney. But for those who missed that one, basically, good guy Aladdin finds a lamp that when rubbed releases a genie who can grant wishes. It's an highly desirable object, and when the Sorcerer finds out, he wants it for himself. Hence, they battle, which is good for players because fights occur during the most exciting part of the game.
Visually, Aladdin and the Sorcerer is one of the best looking slots to come from Pragmatic Play we have to say. The generic feel that has plagued many of their creations in the past is nowhere to be seen here. What we get is a feast for the eyes loaded with dramatic music, vivid colours, beautiful artwork and great animations. It all comes together exceptionally well.
The symbols sit brightly in a 5x3 formation and on either side of them hovers the Sorcerer and Aladdin with his famous lamp. With a suitably exotic soundtrack, it’s time to spin. To start, wagers are controlled by altering the coins per line (there are 20 paylines) and the coin value. This results in spins that cost from 20 c/p up to $/€100 each. Volatility is high, but according to Pragmatic's own index, not maximum variance (4.5/5). Moreover, the default RTP sits above average at 96.23%, which is excellent but you should double check this since Pragmatic games can be set to lower numbers.
All base game symbols are different coloured gemstones. There are five plain gems at the lower end of the scale worth 0.35 to 7.5 times the stake for three to five of a kind. The five high pay gems are adorned with gold trim and payout 1 - 50 times the stake for three to five. Landing 5 of a kind can be a frustratingly rare occurrence, but combos are complimented by several extra features. The game possesses a wacky-looking wild symbol that appears on the middle reels - 2, 3, and 4. It can substitute for any of the base game pay symbols as well as award up to 50 times the stake for five across a full payline.
Aladdin and the Sorcerer (Pragmatic Play): Features
The goal of the slot is to get Aladdin and the Sorcerer to unleash their talents on the reels. During the base game, if the Aladdin BonusSymbol appears on reel 1 without the Sorcerer symbol present, then 3 - 6 wilds are randomly added to the game. Vice versa, if the Sorcerer Bonus Symbol appears on the 5th reel without Aladdin, then again, 3 - 6 wilds are sprinkled on the reels. If both bonus symbols land at the same time, reels 1 and 5 get stacked with wilds whilst also activating the re-spin feature, and the fight is on.
During the Re-Spin feature, the Sorcerer and Aladdin both get health bars with 3 segments each. If the Aladdin symbol lands without the Sorcerer symbol present, he attacks and removes one of his enemy’s health bars - and vice versa for the Sorcerer. If Aladdin loses all of his health bars, the Re-spin feature comes to an end, and returns back to the main game. If Aladdin wins, however, the game moves to the re-spin level 2 round and locks all wilds on the grid in place for the duration.
The Re-Spin Level 2 round consists of 3 spins. On the second spin, the locked wilds get a x2 multiplier added to them which apply to any wins on the applicable paylines. On the third spin, the multiplier increases to x3. The re-spin features cannot be retriggered and comes to an end after all 3 spins have been played.
Aladdin and the Sorcerer (Pragmatic Play): Verdict
Aladdin and the Sorcerer is all about the Level 2 Re-Spins where you will need as many of those x3 multiplier wilds as possible to crack the games top 6,250 times the stake potential. Frustratingly, they always somehow refuse to land in favorable positions so good luck with that. The main game, meanwhile, can get a bit tedious with not a whole lot going on. Engaging the turbo spins helps crack through the dry spells at a blistering pace, but be careful it doesn’t evaporate your bankroll in the process.
Aladdin and the Sorcerer can be a tough game, and watching your account seesaw up and down brings as much thrills as anxiety at times. It is a game that requires patience and a steady nerve to have a chance of getting the most out of it. In that regard, it's not for recreational gamers looking for a few light wins. Dedicated gamblers who appreciate the theme are a better match, though how much they are willing to risk for this level of reward is a pertinent question.
You will need to be in the mood for chasing down decent-ish payouts here, but willing to leave it all on the table if necessary. With its good looks and satisfying bonus round, there is enough here to get the thumbs up. Just be prepared for a slot that can bite back.
